PETER GIANAKURA was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He graduated in 1940 from Sault High School and attended Cleary College. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for over four years during World War II, after which he attended Sault Tech, now Lake Superior State University, when it was established in Sault Ste. Marie. Peter owned and operated The American Café, a family business, for over 43 years. He is married to Georgia, and they are the parents of three daughters and have six grandchildren.
